We use applied to once we refer to things in the past that is no more accurate. It could refer to repeated actions or circumstances, or conditions: He applied to play football for the local group, but he's too old now. That white home over there applied to fit in with my family. (It belonged t, my family in the past, but no more.) Caution: In statements, the proper execution applied does not change. We don't use the verb be before it. It generally refers to overdue: We applied to attend the seaside every summertime when I was a kid.
